Helpful FAQs
How do I choose frequency of treatments?
Quarterly pest control is the minimum recommendation to keep most homes pest-free. In some cases—like severe infestations, persistent pests, or warm and wet climates—more frequent visits are needed.
What is the difference between pest control and extermination?
Extermination is often a reactive process aimed at eradicating an existing pest infestation, typically using chemical treatments. It’s a short-term solution designed to eliminate pests quickly without necessarily addressing the root cause or preventing future issues.
Pest Control, on the other hand, is a more comprehensive and proactive strategy. It involves identifying the causes of infestations, implementing preventive measures, and managing pest populations sustainably over time. This may include eco-friendly techniques, habitat modification, and ongoing maintenance to keep pests away in the long term.

Depending on the situation and the coverage offered by your service plan, we may offer a follow-up visit, make adjustments to the products used, or take other steps to address your expectations and the commitments we made in our agreement with you.
How long do I need to stay off treated areas after a service?
We ask that you allow treated areas to completely dry before resuming an activity around those areas. Outside, this usually takes about 30 minutes. Indoors, it can take about an hour, depending on your treatment.
What neighborhoods in Dallas do you serve?
We provide pest control services throughout Dallas, including neighborhoods like Lakewood, Oak Cliff, Preston Hollow, Highland Park, Bishop Arts, and many more. If you’re unsure whether we cover your area, just give us a call.
Are your treatments pet- and family-friendly?
Yes, our treatments are pet- and kid-friendly, and our safety-conscious Field Experts take care to prioritize the well-being of everyone in your home. We ask that you follow the guidelines provided during service and keep children and pets away from treated areas until they’re fully dry, which is usually about 30 minutes outside, depending on the weather, and 1 to 3 hours inside, based on airflow. We may also recommend extra precautions if you have bird cages, aquariums, or terrariums.
What are the most common pests in Dallas?
In Dallas, pests like ants, cockroaches, spiders, and rodents stay active for much of the year because the region’s warm temperatures and humidity create ideal conditions for nesting and breeding. Fire ants are especially aggressive in lawns and outdoor spaces, where they build large mounds and defend them with painful stings.
Indoors, German cockroaches are one of the most common and persistent pests. They thrive in kitchens and bathrooms because of the steady access to food, water, and warmth. Our pest control services are built to address these common problems at their source.
Are store-bought pest control products effective?
Store-bought sprays and traps can sometimes reduce visible pests, but they typically don’t reach the areas where pests are nesting or entering your home. Many pests hide in places most DIY treatments miss, such as wall voids, under appliances, or around the house foundation. Without addressing the underlying conditions that attract pests in the first place, infestations often return. Our Field Experts closely inspect your property, identify problem areas, and use professional-grade products where they’ll have the greatest impact and produce longer-lasting results.
Do you offer mosquito control services in Dallas?
Yes, we offer monthly mosquito control services throughout the Dallas area. This includes fogging treatments as well as In2Care Stations, which are small devices placed in your yard that attract mosquitoes and help stop them from breeding by targeting larvae.
Mosquito activity tends to spike in Dallas from late spring through early fall, especially after heavy rains or in areas with standing water like birdbaths, clogged gutters, and irrigation runoff. Our ongoing service helps reduce mosquito populations during their most active months so you can enjoy your outdoor spaces with fewer interruptions.
Are scorpions a problem in Dallas?
While scorpions aren’t as common in Dallas as in other parts of Texas, species like the striped bark scorpion can still show up in homes, especially near greenbelt areas or new construction zones. They often hide in woodpiles, under rocks, or inside wall voids. Our service includes inspecting for these hiding spots, treating access points, and applying products around the perimeter of your home to help reduce scorpion activity.
Do you treat for fire ants in Dallas?
Yes, fire ants are a well-known nuisance throughout the Dallas area. They’re aggressive, quick to sting, and commonly found in lawns, driveways, and around foundations. Their mounds can appear overnight, and if left untreated, colonies can grow rapidly. Our Field Experts apply targeted treatments that go deep into the mound to reduce the colony and limit future activity. Ongoing service helps manage reinfestation and protect outdoor areas where families and pets spend time.
How does the Dallas climate affect pest activity?
Dallas has hot summers, mild winters, and frequent humidity shifts, all of which support year-round pest activity. Extreme heat can drive pests like cockroaches and rodents indoors in search of cooler shelter, while humid conditions after rain encourage breeding for mosquitoes, ants, and flies.
Even in winter, pests such as spiders, mice, and silverfish may remain active inside homes, especially in garages, basements, and attics. Our Field Experts adjust treatments throughout the year to match the conditions that influence pest behavior.
What are the most common pest problems by season in Dallas?
In spring, warming temperatures and rainfall signal to many pests that it’s time to become active. Ants begin foraging and expanding their colonies, wasps start building new nests, and termite swarmers emerge to form new colonies. Summer is peak season in Dallas for mosquitoes, fire ants, and roaches, especially in areas with moisture or shade that provide prime breeding conditions.
During fall, pests like rodents, spiders, and crickets start to move indoors as nighttime temperatures drop. Winter tends to bring more indoor pest activity from mice, rats, and the occasional roach or silverfish looking for warmth.
Each season brings new challenges, which is why year-round service from Moxie Pest Control is so important.
Why do I see more pests after my first treatment?
It’s common to see increased pest activity after your initial service. The products we apply begin working immediately, which can drive pests out of their hiding spots before they’re eliminated. This short-term uptick is expected and usually settles within a few days. If pests continue to be a problem, Moxie offers free warranty reservice between regularly scheduled maintenance visits at no extra cost for customers on a year-round plan.
