Helpful FAQs

What Philadelphia neighborhoods do you serve?

We provide trusted pest control services across all of Philadelphia and surrounding areas, including neighborhoods like Fishtown, Northern Liberties, Fairmount, Chestnut Hill, University City, Society Hill, and South Philadelphia. If you’re not sure if we provide coverage where you live, just give us a call.

Are your treatments pet- and kid-friendly?

Yes, our treatments are kid-friendly and pet-friendly, and our safety-conscious Field Experts always prioritize the well-being of everyone in your home. We ask that you follow any safety-related instructions from our Field Experts, including keeping kids and pets away from treated areas for about 30 minutes in outdoor areas (depending on the weather) and 1 – 3 hours indoors (depending on airflow). If you keep pets in fish tanks, terrariums, or bird cages, we may recommend additional precautions.

What pests are most common in Philadelphia?

Philadelphia’s most common pests include cockroaches, rodents, ants, and ticks. The city’s dense population, aging infrastructure, and mix of urban and green spaces create ideal conditions for infestations. Cockroaches and rodents are especially prevalent in older buildings, while ants and ticks are frequently found in homes and yards throughout the region.

These pests can cause stress, property damage, and even health risks, and often require professional treatment to keep them at bay.

Do I really need professional pest control, or can I just use products from the store?

The problem with store-bought products is that they often only affect the pests you see, while leaving the ones behind the scenes unscathed. Professional pest control by Moxie reaches these hidden pest havens, including entry points and nesting areas deep within walls, recesses, and foundations.

Our Field Experts are trained daily on stopping infestations with targeted treatments and delivering long-term solutions that provide year-round peace of mind.

Do you offer mosquito control services in Philadelphia?

Yes, we do. Mosquitoes are a nagging concern in Eastern Pennsylvania, especially in areas with standing water, overgrown yards, and frequent outdoor activity.

Cockroaches have invaded my home. Can you help?

Absolutely, we can help. Cockroaches are one of the most persistent and widespread pests in Philadelphia, especially in older homes and dense urban neighborhoods. These critters are drawn to food, moisture, and clutter, and can pose serious health risks by spreading bacteria and allergens.

Our team uses targeted treatments to eliminate infestations at the source and prevent future activity. We’ll inspect your home, identify problem areas, and create a customized plan to effectively battle your roach problems.

How does Philadelphia’s climate affect pest activity?

Philadelphia’s humid climate and frequent rainfall create ideal conditions for pests like cockroaches, ants, and mosquitoes. Warm, damp environments support breeding and nesting, especially in older homes and basements where moisture collects. The city’s dense housing and abundant food sources also contribute to ongoing pest issues. These climate factors allow many pests to remain active and resilient throughout much of the year.

Is pest activity seasonal in Philadelphia?

Philadelphia’s changing seasons bring shifting pest pressures. In spring and summer, warmer temperatures and increased humidity create ideal conditions for ants, mosquitoes, ticks, and stinging insects to breed and spread. You’ll often see more outdoor activity and pests entering homes through cracks and gaps in search of food and moisture.

As temperatures drop in fall and winter, rodents, cockroaches, and spiders begin moving indoors to escape the cold, settling into basements, wall voids, and other quiet, sheltered areas. These seasonal shifts drive pest movement, nesting, and reproduction, making year-round pest control essential for preventing infestations before they start.

Why am I seeing more pests right after my first treatment?

It’s perfectly normal to see more pest activity after the first treatment. This initial barrage disrupts pests and drives them out of their comfort zone. We expect them to be disoriented and a bit beside themselves – this initial flurry of activity is actually a sign that the treatment is working.

As our treatments continue to take hold, you can expect to see less activity within a few days. If problems continue to arise, customers on our year-round plan receive free warranty reservice treatments to quickly tackle those reemerging pests.
