Keeping a Step Ahead of Boston’s Tick Surge
Rising temps and wet weather in Boston have fueled a recent spike in tick populations, bringing increased risks of Lyme, Powassan virus, and more. Our targeted treatments help disrupt this dangerous cycle at every stage, focusing on tick species like:

Deer tick:
This species is the primary carrier of Lyme disease and lives in shaded or wooded areas.

Lone star tick:
Known for its aggressive bite, it can cause allergic reactions and other health issues.

Dog tick:
Common in yards and parks, it can transmit Rocky Mountain spotted fever to humans or pets.

Helpful FAQs
How do I choose frequency of treatments?
Quarterly pest control is the minimum recommendation to keep most homes pest-free. In some cases—like severe infestations, persistent pests, or warm and wet climates—more frequent visits are needed.
What is the difference between pest control and extermination?
Extermination is often a reactive process aimed at eradicating an existing pest infestation, typically using chemical treatments. It’s a short-term solution designed to eliminate pests quickly without necessarily addressing the root cause or preventing future issues.
Pest Control, on the other hand, is a more comprehensive and proactive strategy. It involves identifying the causes of infestations, implementing preventive measures, and managing pest populations sustainably over time. This may include eco-friendly techniques, habitat modification, and ongoing maintenance to keep pests away in the long term.

How do I reschedule an appointment?
No need to reschedule if you are unable to be home. We can still provide effective treatment with exterior services that will create a barrier for new pests attempting to enter your home.
You can reschedule by calling our contact center or using the link in your appointment confirmation email or text message to reschedule online!

What happens if I’m not happy with my service?
If you’re not happy with your service, please let us know right away. We want our customers to be satisfied with our services. Depending on the situation and the coverage offered by your service plan, we may offer a follow-up visit, make adjustments to the products used, or take other steps to address your expectations and the commitments we made in our agreement with you.
How long do I need to stay off treated areas after a service?
We ask that you allow treated areas to completely dry before resuming an activity around those areas. Outside, this usually takes about 30 minutes. Indoors, it can take about an hour, depending on your treatment.
What Boston neighborhoods do you serve?
We can provide you with trusted pest control services no matter where you live in Boston, including the neighborhoods of Back Bay, South End, Dorchester, Jamaica Plain, Beacon Hill, East Boston, and Allston-Brighton.
Are your treatments pet- and kid-friendly?
Yes, our pest treatments are pet- and family-friendly. Moxie’s local Field Experts handle every job with a safety-minded approach, and will always make the well-being of your kids and pets a priority. We recommend keeping children and animals away from treated areas until they have fully dried, which usually takes about 30 minutes outdoors (depending on the weather), and 1 to 3 hours for indoor jobs (depending on airflow). For houses with fish tanks, bird cages, or terrariums, we may suggest additional precautions.
What are the most common pests in Boston?
Boston’s mix of historic buildings, dense neighborhoods, and changing seasons makes it an all-too-welcome haven for a variety of pests. Common invaders include rodents like mice and rats, which often seek warmth and shelter during our chilly winters. Cockroaches thrive in older structures with easy access to food and moisture, and ants become active in spring and summer. Boston homeowners also frequently deal with termites and stinging insects like wasps, which become particularly aggressive in late summer as they scavenge for food and defend their nests.
Can’t I just do DIY pest control with store-bought products?
You can try, but over-the-counter pest control products may only kill the bugs you can see (while the rest thrive and multiply behind the scenes!)
Most store-bought sprays and traps offer quick fixes but rarely reach the hidden nests or entry points where infestations start. Without expert insight, the real problem often gets overlooked.
Our Field Experts know where pests hide and how to stop them at the source, using professional tools and treatments that deliver real, lasting results.
Do you offer mosquito control services in Boston?
Yes! Our mosquito control services include monthly fogging and In2Care Stations: discreet devices that attract mosquitoes and disrupt their breeding cycle. Boston’s warm, humid summers and frequent rainfall create ideal conditions for mosquito activity, especially near standing water. Our local Field Experts service each station every 21 to 30 days and adjust treatments based on seasonal conditions.
Ants are a big problem in Boston. What can you do?
Ants become especially active in Boston during the warmer months because rising temperatures trigger their foraging and nesting behaviors. They search for food and moisture, often invading homes and yards.
We tackle ant problems by inspecting entry points and nesting areas, then applying targeted treatments to help eliminate colonies. Ongoing monitoring helps ensure the treatment continues to prevent ant activity in your home.
How does Boston’s climate affect seasonal pest activity?
Boston’s humid summers and freezing winters create a seasonal ebb and flow in pest behavior. Warm, wet summers accelerate breeding cycles for pests like ants, mosquitoes, and wasps, leading to heightened outdoor activity. Meanwhile, the city’s long, cold winters drive pests like mice, rats, and cockroaches indoors in search of warmth, food, and shelter, making winter a prime time for indoor infestations. Year-round moisture and changing temperatures also create ideal conditions for pests like spiders and silverfish to thrive inside.
This shifting pest pressure makes consistent, preventative pest control especially important in Boston.
Why am I seeing more pests right after my first treatment?
It’s common to notice more pests immediately after the first service. Treatments disturb their nests, causing pests to emerge and run for cover before they die off. Rather than being a source of concern, this temporary increase actually shows the treatment is working. Most pest activity drops within days, and our year-round customers can request free follow-up service if needed under our warranty.
What to expect
